This Privacy Policy explains how ItemRecover (“ItemRecover”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website, mobile apps, and related services (the “Services”).
1. Who we are
ItemRecover provides a digital proof-of-ownership platform (“Passports”) for physical items. You can store receipts, photos, serial numbers, documents, and exports (for example, Proof Pack PDFs). You can also link IR Tags to items so a finder can contact you if something is lost or stolen.
2. Information we collect
- Account information (e.g. name, email, phone number, language and preferences).
- Passport and Vault content you upload (e.g. receipts, PDFs, photos, serial numbers, notes, documents, videos, business cards).
- IR Tag and activation data (e.g. tag codes, sheet activation, ownership links, scan events).
- Messages you send or receive (including finder-owner communication where applicable).
- Payments and orders when you buy tags or services (handled by payment providers; we do not store full card details).
- Technical and usage data (e.g. IP address, device/browser info, timestamps, logs required for security and debugging).
- Cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookies Policy).
3. How we use information
- Provide and operate the Services (create Passports, store receipts, generate exports, activate tags).
- Improve and secure the Services (fraud prevention, abuse detection, performance monitoring).
- Communicate with you (service emails, support, account notifications).
- Process purchases and fulfill orders.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. AI scanning (receipt / document / business card parsing)
When you use scanning features, we may process uploaded files (images or PDFs) with third-party AI providers to extract structured data (e.g. merchant, date, items, amounts, contact fields). We use Google Gemini (Flash) and may fall back to OpenAI for extraction when needed.
We only send the content necessary for extraction, and we use the results to populate your Passport or Vault entries. You remain responsible for verifying extracted fields before relying on them.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers that help us run the Services (hosting, storage, email delivery, analytics, payment processing, AI extraction).
- Other users when you choose to share (e.g. transfers and finder messaging).
- Legal and safety recipients if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. You can delete certain items within the app. Some data may be retained where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
7. Finder lookup (missing/stolen recovery)
If you mark an item as missing/stolen, a finder who scans your IR Tag or searches an exact identifier may see limited item information and a private contact form. You control what you publish and can mark the item as found to disable the alert.
8. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong password and keep your account access safe.
9. Your choices and rights
- Update your personal information in Settings.
- Control certain notifications and preferences.
- Request access, correction, or deletion where applicable.
10. International transfers
Depending on where you live and where our providers operate, your information may be processed in countries other than your own. We take steps designed to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
